TYPO3 vs. WordPress: Which System Fits Your Company?
    Short answer
TYPO3 and WordPress are both open source but solve different problems. WordPress is quick to set up, cheap to start and ideal for blogs and smaller company sites. TYPO3 shines on large multilingual websites with many editors, fine-grained permissions and plannable long-term support. Rule of thumb: the larger the page tree, editorial team and number of languages, the more TYPO3 fits. For pure marketing websites, Webflow or Lovable are also worth a look.

    Two Systems, Two Philosophies

WordPress started as a blogging system and is now the most widely used CMS in the world. TYPO3 was built from the start for company websites with many pages and editors and is especially common in German-speaking countries among mid-sized companies, universities and public institutions. Both are open source and license-free.

When WordPress Is the Better Choice

    • You need a manageable company site or a blog.
    • One to three people maintain content without complex approvals.
    • The budget is limited and you want to launch fast.
    • You want access to a large selection of themes and plugins.

When TYPO3 Is the Better Choice

    • Your website has hundreds of pages or several country and language versions.
    • Many editors from different departments maintain their own areas.
    • Content needs to be reviewed and approved before going live.
    • You want to plan updates over years instead of constantly chasing plugins.
    Kernaussage
The question is not which system is better but which fits your organization. A portal with 40 editors on WordPress is just as wrong as a five-page website on TYPO3.

    Security and Maintenance

Both systems are secure when maintained. The risk with WordPress lies mainly in the number of plugins: every extension is a possible attack surface with its own update rhythm. TYPO3 has a smaller ecosystem and fixed LTS cycles with three years of free support per version. [1] On the other hand, a TYPO3 version change is usually more work than a WordPress update.

    What About Webflow or Lovable?

For design-focused marketing websites that need easy editing, Webflow or Lovable are often leaner than both classic systems. We are an official partner of both. Our tech stack comparison shows how the systems perform in detail.

    How to Decide

    1. Count pages, languages and editors, today and in three years.
    2. Clarify whether content needs approval.
    3. Check which integrations are needed.
    4. Add up launch and maintenance over five years, not just the launch.
We build with TYPO3, WordPress, Webflow and Lovable. That is why we can honestly say what fits. The best system decision is the one you no longer have to think about after three years.
