    TYPO3 14 LTS was released on 21 April 2026 and is the recommended version for new projects. If you use TYPO3 12, switch now; for TYPO3 13, planning by 2027 is enough.

    TYPO3 14 was developed in four steps: version 14.0 in November 2025 brought the big technical breaking changes, 14.1 and 14.2 added features, and 14.3 arrived as the LTS release on 21 April 2026. [3] [2]

    The Most Important New Features

    • Modernized backend: the interface was fundamentally reworked, including a new context panel. Editors find their way faster.
    • Easier page and content creation: workflows for new pages and content elements were shortened.
    • Camino as default theme: a bundled theme makes it easier to start new projects and prototypes.
    • Guided translation workflow: multilingual content can be translated in a more structured way, extending one of TYPO3's classic strengths.
    • QR codes and short links: dedicated modules create QR codes and short URLs directly in the system, handy for print and campaigns.
    • Improved Form Framework: forms can be built more flexibly.

    TYPO3 14 is above all an update for editors: fewer clicks, a clearer interface, better translations. Technically, it offers the longest free support horizon of all current versions.

    When You Should Switch

    1. You use TYPO3 12 or older: now. Free support has ended; every additional year costs ELTS or increases risk.
    2. You use TYPO3 13: plan the upgrade for 2027. You get free security updates until the end of 2027; after that it gets more expensive.
    3. You are starting a new project: go straight to TYPO3 14. Anything else would be a built-in expiry date.

    Upgrade Path from v12 and v13

    From TYPO3 13 to 14 the step is manageable if templates and extensions are cleanly built. From TYPO3 12 the path usually goes through v13 as an intermediate step so the upgrade wizards work. Check beforehand whether all extensions you use are available for TYPO3 14. In practice, that is more often the bottleneck than the core itself.
    With every major TYPO3 update, it is worth asking which extensions you really still need. An upgrade is the best opportunity to get rid of legacy baggage.
