Websites for law firms: credible presence, more mandates
Clients look for help in exceptional situations. How a law firm website builds trust, stays compliant with professional rules and brings in mandates.

Clients search in an exceptional situation
The first ten seconds

- Practice area: does the firm handle my matter?
- Lawyer: who would represent me, and do they come across as competent and trustworthy?
- Contact: how quickly can I get an appointment or callback?
What belongs on the website
| Area | Content | Tip |
|---|---|---|
| Practice areas | One page per area, clearly explained | Describe typical cases from the client's perspective |
| Lawyers | Photos, background, specialist titles, languages | Real portraits instead of stock images |
| Initial consultation | Process, costs, what to bring | Lowers the threshold |
| Contact | Phone, form, booking, callback | One tap on mobile |
| Guides | Articles on concrete legal questions | Brings visitors via Google |
| Legal details | Imprint with professional information | See below |
What professional law says
- Factuality requirement: under § 43b BRAO advertising is allowed as long as it informs factually about professional activity and is not aimed at an individual mandate. [1]
- Titles: specialist lawyer titles only once awarded. Terms such as "specialist" only if accurate and not confusable with an official title. [2]
- Imprint: in addition to the usual details, chamber, professional title with state of award, professional regulations and professional liability insurance with geographic scope. [3]
- Data protection: enquiries often contain sensitive information. Forms ask only for what is necessary, transmission is encrypted, tracking only runs with consent.

What does a law firm website cost?
| Scope | Typical content | Guide price |
|---|---|---|
| Compact | Firm, practice areas, lawyers, contact | approx. 4,000 to 6,000 € |
| Standard | Plus pages per practice area, online booking | approx. 6,000 to 10,000 € |
| Extensive | Guide section, multilingual, photo shoot | approx. 10,000 to 14,000 € |
For law firms, restraint is a strength. A calm, precise website with real faces and clear paths says more about the quality of the work than any superlative.
Practice area pages that clients understand
- Start from the client's view: "Have you been dismissed?" instead of "Employment law covers individual and collective labour law."
- Typical situations: three to five concrete cases in which you help.
- Process: what happens after the enquiry? Initial consultation, documents, deadlines.
- State deadlines clearly: for example the three-week deadline for unfair dismissal claims in Germany. This shows competence and creates urgency.
- Contact person: who handles this area, with photo and specialist title.
- Contact at the end of every page: not only via the menu.
Guides: visibility through expertise
| Guide type | Example | Benefit |
|---|---|---|
| Explanation | What is a formal warning? | Makes basics understandable |
| How-to | Appealing a fine in 5 steps | Concrete help, high relevance |
| Deadlines and costs | What does a divorce cost? | Common search with purchase intent |
| Rulings | New Federal Labour Court ruling on overtime | Freshness, shows expertise |
Building trust digitally
- Real portraits and short videos in which lawyers introduce themselves.
- Reviews from the Google Business Profile, honest and unedited.
- Transparency on costs: explain the process and cost of the initial consultation openly.
- Memberships and specialist titles stated factually, without exaggeration.
Common mistakes on law firm websites
- Legalese: anyone who does not understand the page will not get in touch.
- One practice area per line: a bare list without dedicated pages is hardly found on Google.
- Unencrypted forms or forms that ask for too many sensitive details.
- Outdated content: the law changes. Guides on an old legal basis damage trust.
A law firm website does not have to be loud. In a turbulent moment it has to radiate calm and make the next step clear.
